Employee Training

Newly hired sworn staff receive 600 hours of training during their first year of employment. This includes a 440 hour Basic Jailor Academy and 160 hours of On-the-Job Training (Field Training) and Orientation before working independently. Field Training allows you to work along side a veteran officer who will mentor and critique your work. This training includes, but is not limited to, the following classes:

  • Interpersonal Communication Skills
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Supervising Juveniles in an Adult Facility
  • Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) & Staff Sexual Misconduct
  • Report Writing

  • Employee Rules of Conduct
  • Hazardous Materials
